MG Midget MkIII RWA – 21,000 Miles/Stunning Car

The MG Midget Mk III was introduced in 1966.  Improved performance (the A-series engine capacity was increased to 1275cc) and refined interior (including a folding hood mechanism) made the model the perfect entry level sports car for a new generation of appreciative young drivers who wanted affordable performance

 

Milestone Classics are delighted to market one of the nicest Midgets that you could wish to find.  Finished in the rare combination of black/tan Interior with desirable round wheel arches, the car has covered just 21,000 miles and had seven owners from new (4 in the last 40 years).

 

The Midget has never been restored, is structurally very good with no corrosion and drives exactly as intended when she left Abingdon in 1973.  The engine/gearbox are excellent - the MG has always been loved with annual servicing and an MOT history back to 1992 when the mileage was just 11,596.

Exactly as she left the factory, we particularly like the original Rostyle wheels that have been retained and work perfectly with the black bodywork.

Daimler Sovereign: Matching Numbers/Superb

 

The Daimler Sovereign produced by Jaguar was the “luxury alternative” for those looking for comfort rather than outright speed from their 420 saloons.

 

Blessed with the famous straight six engine used in the E-type but with twin carbs mated to a 3-speed automatic gearbox the Sovereign sold well and was very much the “Gentleman’s Express” of its day.

 

Milestones sold the Sovereign in 2018 to a regular customer who has the highest standards, employs an engineer to maintain his private collection and simply wants his cars to drive, look & smell like when they were new.  The Daimler certainly ticks all these boxes and more.

 

The car was the subject of a full photographic restoration during 2003/4 at Mark Cooper Engineering after a period of time in storage. Finished in stunning Jaguar Dark Blue with red interior and chrome wire wheels, today the car is in lovely condition with the restoration, after 20 years, still presenting extremely well. 

 

Mechanically the original engine was reconditioned by VSE Ltd (including hardened valve seats), the gear box overhauled by Hardy Engineering and the radio upgraded by the Vintage Wireless Company

Morris 1000: 6 Miles From New- Unrepeatable

 

The Morris 1000, designed by the team led by Alec Issigonis, debuted at the 1948 Earls Court motor show.  The small family saloon was perfect for post war families and quickly became an iconic vehicle that was exported all around the world. Over 1.3 million were manufactured before production ceased in 1972 and today good examples are the perfect entry point for those new to classic car ownership.

 

Milestones are always looking for special cars for our discerning customers and we believe this is an unrepeatable opportunity to purchase a Morris 1000 that has covered just six miles from new and never been through a single MOT.

 

History:

 

In the mid 1970’s Charles Clarke & Son (Wolverhampton), a British Leyland distributor, were sold off by Rubery Owen Holdings.  One of the dealerships that Charles Clarke supplied was Bloomsbury Garage (Weston Heath), a Morris Dealership since 1962 

 

The owner of Bloomsbury, Roger Morton, negotiated with Charles Clark to purchase the three remaining unused Morris 1000 saloon bodyshells that the company held in stock.  The first two shells (both 2 doors) were moved on quickly by Roger but the third remained under dust sheets at the back of the garage workshops as a retirement project.

 

Around 1987 work commenced on the shell.  NOS panels were utilised where required while an unused engine, gearbox & back axle were purchased in creates from an army surplus sale.

 

Roger knew Morris’s inside out - as did his son Steve, who completed his apprenticeship at the garage – and when he died in 1990 his retirement project was 99% complete and put on display in Bloomsbury Garage and used sparingly for the odd local classic show.

 

Fast forward to 2024.  Steve Morton took the hard decision to let the Morris 1000 go due to loss of storage.   Today the shell is rust free and must be the best in the country. 

 

On arrival Jamie decided to detail the car – it is exactly what he enjoys and excels at.   The objective was to create a Morris 1000 that mechanically and structurally is like new while retaining a light patina that cannot be replicated in a full restoration. 

 

From the original BMC interior, switches that all operate like new, an engine that bumbles along, English chrome from 50 years ago and a cellulose paint finish completed in Roger’s workshop, the Moggie is truly unrepeatable.

 

In summary - a unique opportunity to purchase an unrestored Morris 1000 with just 6 miles on the clock that drives well, has a lovely patina, no corrosion and just needs to be used and enjoyed.

Range Rover 4.2 V8 Supercharged Vogue SE: Top Specification

The Range Rover L322 like the Rover 75 and Mini (R50) was developed during BMW’s ownership of the Rover Group.  Unlike the other two models the BMW overall engineering supremo, Wolfgang Reitzle, took a very hands-on role with the development of the Range Rover and (correctly) asserted that it should be a top-end luxury car to challenge the likes of Bentley.  The final result was revolutionary.

   

The body was an all-new monocoque with the petrol V8 or diesel straight sixes & transmissions transplanted from the BMW passenger car range.  With the transfer of Range Rover to Ford in 2005 the engines were replaced by Ford units although design and speculations remained impressive.

 

Our May 2005 Range Rover is a local car that has arrived as a part-exchange against another Milestones car.  The V8 Supercharged (400hp Jaguar) engine is remarkable with blistering acceleration and a soundtrack to match.

 

Although the ‘Rangie’ has covered 107k miles the Zambezi silver metallic paintwork is remarkable with just the slight mark commensurate with use and all panels fit well and doors shut with a reassuring thud.

 

Stepping into the Range Rover is where the Vogue SE specification hits you with acres of wood, leather, deep pile carpet and lots of bells and whistles including an audio/visual system that includes screens for rear passengers and a roving camera that you can use for off-road excursions.

The Range Rover was purchased in 2017 by a local engineer for his wife but has had minimal use over the past seven years and the current mileage is 107k.

 

A huge amount of “bang-for-your-buck” these 4x4’s are without doubt a future classic and the higher the specification the more collectable they are.

Opel Kadett/Astra Mk1 GTE: 3-Door/Total Restored

The Opel Kadett was launched in 1979.  Initially all production was based at Opel’s West German (Bochum) factory - the RHD Kadett was simply rebadged as an Astra for the UK market – with UK production commencing in 1981.  By 1983 General Motors had decided to enter the Hot-Hatch market and the ‘GTE’ was launched in direct competition against the XR3, Golf GTi, and 205GTi.   What a choice for the twenty something driver….

 

Unlike other colour options the white 1800 GTE was the first UK car to be fully colour-coded with trim (wheel arch extensions, side skirts and even the alloy wheels) that matched the base colour of the car and the 1800cc fuel injected engine with alloy head and overhead cam was an absolute barnstormer.

 

At Milestones we have been looking for a Mk1 GTE for years – I have fond memories and it is Jamie’s favourite ‘80’s Hot-Hatch – and when this three - door example (in white) came to market we simply had to inspect her.

 

The previous examples we had looked to buy have been tired or very poorly restored rusty shells that did not meet our standards – this GTE is something very special.

 

An enthusiast had been looking for his dream GTE, with no success.  In a final attempt he extended his search into Europe and finally discovered a corrosion free, low mileage example in France. 

 

He personally imported the car into the UK and commenced a full nut & bolt restoration during 2020 that included converting the car to right hand drive. 

 

The result is the best example we have ever seen.

 

·       Bodyshell:  Excellent. The professional paint finish is outstanding and the car is as good underneath as she is on top.

·       Interior:  Excellent.  All the hard-to-find trim has been tracked down and stepping into the Kadett is simply like going back in time.

·       Mechanical:  Excellent. The car drives perfectly and the engine bay is a credit to the restorer.

·       There is a small history file with copies of French registration, DVLA paperwork, V5 etc.

 

The rust-free shell gives the structural integrity & strength on which these cars depend and makes for a totally engaging drive.

 

Today this super rare Hot-Hatch is the best on the market and we recommend viewing to fully appreciate the ability and beauty of this stunning car.

JaguarXK150S (1960): Full Restoration/Matching Nos

The Jaguar 150 was the final evolution of the legendary XK launched in 1949 and was the most refined and powerful of the XK range.  Announced for the home market in May 1957 the XK150 bore a family resemblance to both the XK120 & 140 but was radically revised with a larger one-piece windscreen, higher wing line/larger doors making driver/passenger access easier and the driving position much improved/more spacious. 

 

Beauty was not just skin deep and the final iteration of the ‘150’ came to market in 1960 when the 220hp 3.8 engine fitted to the Mark IX saloon was made available.  The legendary late ‘S’ specification was tuned to produce 265hp and benefited from triple 2 inch SU’s, Straight Port Head and Thornton Power Lock Axle that propelled the car to 135mph with the 0-60 mph dash available in around 7.00 seconds. 

 

With an ‘S’ production run of under 150 cars and less than 50 right hand drive this is a very rare car indeed.  The original RF60 buff logbook from July 1960 shows that the car was registered to a senior manager at Birds (Derby) Ltd, the large Midlands based baking company.

 

From the history folder we can see that the Jaguar changed hands during 1965 and ran as an everyday car until 1974 when she was placed in storage.  During June 1996 the car was purchased as a barn find and a full body-off restoration was commenced – this has stood the test of time extremely well and is a real testament to the craftsmanship of the restorers.

 

From the photographic evidence in the history file it is clear that the two brothers completing the work cut no corners.  The chassis was stripped and sent off for shotblasting while bodywork was replaced as necessary. The colour was changed at this time from the original Cotswold Blue/Black interior to Carmen Red/Oatmeal interior - a stunning combination.

 

The fully restored XK arrived with the current owner in West Sussex during 2012 as a present from his wife.   Over the years the Jaguar has been used for UK/Continental tours with the XK Club and provided the couple with lots of fun and many, many happy memories.

 

There is a lovely history folder with the Jaguar containing the buff logbook, old MOT’s, lots of invoices, pictures of the restoration and the car still retains her original Derby registration number.

 

Servicing/work on the car has been completed as required, most recently a new main oil seal (modern lip seal upgrade), clutch kit, carb overhaul, crankshaft pulley/damper and full-service costing in excess of £6k.

 

The XK 150 roadster in late ‘S’ specification is an exceptionally rare and very capable car.  Price sensibly this lovely classic is ready for more adventures with a new custodian and needs to be seen (and driven) in order to be fully appreciated.

Caterham 7 Sprint – Anniversary Edition (6/60)

In 1973 Lotus decided to shed its kit car image and sold the rights to the ‘7’ to its only remaining agents in England, Caterham Cars.  Initially they used the remaining Lotus S4 kits but by 1974 these had been exhausted and they reverted to their own version of the S3.  The S3’s, in a number of guises, were quickly acknowledged as a truly outstanding car for both fast road/track use and today attract a loyal following, have their own competitive race series and an extremely active club.

 

Milestones are delighted to offer the opportunity to purchase one of the 60 Limited Edition Caterham Seven Sprint cars manufactured to celebrate 60 years of the Lotus 7 in 2017.  The cars were launched at the Goodwood Revival in September 2016 and all 60 were sold out in 7 days – Jamie and I spent time visiting the stand over that weekend and there was a real “buzz” around the car generated by the evocative appearance & soundtrack – it sounds remarkably 1960’s.

 

Caterham ensured that these Sprints captured the spirit of the early originals with powdered-coated grey chassis (like the Series 2), skinny wheels with chrome hub caps and suspension/rollover bar taken straight out of Colin Chapman's original sketchbook. 

 

Bodywork features original ‘clamshell’ flared front arches and is fully painted in period Camberwick Green.  The red, hand stitched Muirhead Scottish leather interior is stunning with Smiths instruments and a bespoke Moto-Lita steering wheel with engraved centre boss complete the interior.

 

Power comes from the peppy three-cylinder Turbo Suzuki engine producing 80bhp coupled to a five-speed short-shift gearbox – she makes all the right noises and delivers an utterly engaging driving experience.

 

The Sprint comes with a nice history file confirming 2 owners, annual servicing (factory inspection + 4 stamps) and just over 2,500 miles from new.  There are a variety of invoices. old MOT’s, leather key pouch/fobs, original literature etc.

 

This really is an opportunity to own a slice of automotive art that will only go up in value while delivering an utterly intoxicating driving experience.  Has to be seen and driven to be appreciate.

BMW E28 520i Auto: Time Warp Example/1 Previous Owner

The 5 Series ‘Executive’ range has been manufactured by BMW since 1972 and the second generation E28 was in production between 1981 and 1988 (replacing the E12) and established the BMW brand as a sports saloon for the upwardly mobile family man.

 

At Milestones we are gaining an enviable reputation for keeping a small stock of emerging classics for our discerning customers.  This one previous owner, 52k mile, unrestored E28 has just come back to us from a regular customer - we sold him the car to him last year - in part-exchange for another Milestones classic.

 

With a high level of comfort, super smooth (M20) six cylinder engine and willing performance it is just the car for an enthusiast looking for something a little different to use every day or simply as a high-days-and-holiday classic that can be used carefully while going up in value.

 

Our Luxor Beige (welcome to 1987!) E28 was supplied new during November 1987 to its first owner in Cyprus by Char. Pilakouyas & Sons, the BMW dealership in Limassol, Cyprus.  The car was used sparingly and garaged at the family home in Cyprus until 1999 when it was shipped to central London where it spent most of the time under a dust sheet in an underground garage.

 

Today the car is in exceptional condition inside and out – this is not your usual restoration will replacement sills/floor plans & tired interior – and everything is original.  All the rubber sills are supple and the interior is a special place to be with no wear to the trim & a totally crack free dashboard. 

 

Mechanically the BMW drives like a five-year-old car with the straight-six engine and auto box all in excellent condition.  The whole package is set-off by the TRX period alloy wheels.

 

There is a nice history file with invoices from Cyprus, importation paperwork, City of Westminster parking letters and drivers book pack including instruction manual and service book.

 

Cars in this condition sadly still make Jamie and I very excited - we are petrolheads at heart.   We recommend viewing and an early test drive to fully appreciate this remarkable car.

Morris 1000 Convertible: Built by ESM/+£32k Spent

Milestones are always looking for special cars for our discerning customers and were delighted when we were approached by the owner to help sell his very special convertible.

 

History:

 

On the 18th July 1961 by Mr Atkinson of Longfield, Kent collected his new Morris 1000 saloon from John C Beadle Ltd based in Dartford.  He clearly loved his ‘Moggie’ and used her sparingly until he stopped driving in 2010 and passed his beloved car on to his daughter and son-in-law. 

 

They decided to take the car in a different direction and embarked on a full no expense spared restoration/conversion from a saloon-to-convertible at East Sussex Minors (ESM) of Ticehurst.

The Morris was purchased in 2021 by the third/current owner who has used and very much enjoyed the car over the past three years.

 

The Minor does not disappoint.  Just about every component has been replaced and the whole body stripped, all corrosion removed prior to the top-class restoration (body colour underneath) and convertible conversion by ESM. 

 

The Minor has a lovely history folder with all MOT’s back to 1966, original BMC envelope (I have never seen one of these before) containing original handbook, warranty, service book, and a picture of the Beadles showroom.  In addition, there are more recent ESM invoices in respect of the rebuild

 

If you are looking for a Minor that has had EVERYTHING done this is the car for you.  All work has been completed to the highest standards and she really does drive like a three-year-old car.

Zephyr 6 (Mk1) Convertible: Restored/Triple Carbs/Sports Manifold & O’drive

 

The first-generation Ford Consul/Zephyr range was introduced at the 1950 Earls Court Motor Show and marked the start of Ford’s successful attack on the family saloon car market.

 

The new Zephyr featured monocoque construction, OHV 2262cc engine, MacPherson Strut front suspension and “Three on the Tree '' column change gearbox. The trans-Atlantic styling proved popular with public and press alike and the car was an immediate sales success. 

 

The most desirable was arguably the convertible Zephyr that with electric power-hood and when specified with performance manifold, triple carburettors & overdrive gearbox the car really did tick all the boxes.  

 

Milestone Classics do like exceptional Fords and when we were asked to market this 1954 Zephyr Mk1 that was originally exported to NSW, Australia and registered on 1/01/54 we jumped at the opportunity. 

 

The car was repatriated to the UK in 1999, purchased as a restoration project in 2000 and finally UK registered in 2014.  When the car arrived she was red but is now finished in Ford “Coronation Blue”, a period correct colour in honour of Queen Elizabeth II enthronement.

 

Summary of Restoration:

 

·       All components & related parts were disassembled leaving the body-shell to be stripped back to bare metal.

·       NOS wings were purchased, and new door skins fabricated/rolled.

Wolseley Six (Landcrab): Manual/Power Steering

The ADO17 was the model code name used by BMC for a range of large family cars manufactured between 1964 and 1975.  The car was originally sold as the Austin 1800, but Morris and Wolseley models followed, later designated as the Austin/Morris 2200 and the upmarket Wolseley Six. 

 

The ADO17 was voted European Car of the Year for 1965 and the contemporary Wolseley sales brochure does not hold back.  British Leyland marketing (never shy) advises that the Wolseley’s elegance comes from “having the right background” & “keeping good company” while the fast life “begins with the Wolseley Six”.  Happy days indeed.

 

Our example was sold new by Saville Motors, Stratford Road Solihull to Mr V L R Dugdale of Camberley, Surrey on 17th August 1973 and the ‘6’ had factory power steering and an automatic gearbox - later replaced with a manual box and gaining a glass sunroof.

 

At Milestone Classics we do like finding classic cars that can be used & enjoyed immediately and our Wolseley Six is one of the straightest cars that you could wish to find.  The car was parked up in 1994 by the then owner and purchased in November 2018 in an executor’s sale after 24 years under a dust cover.  The body is exceptional with lovely Damask Red paint, outstanding panel fit and the red velour interior is super comfortable and very British Leyland.

 

On the road the 6-cylinder engine does not disappoint, is remarkably capable and a real pleasure to drive comfortably coping with modern road conditions.

 

With just seven owners in fifty years the history file contains old MOTs back to 1978, invoices, V5’s etc and an original Sales Brochure.

 

The Wolseley Six is one of the rarest BMC models from this era of motoring and delivers a level of luxury & performance superior to other BMC offerings of the period.

Vauxhall Victor FD Estate – Stunning Example

 

The FD Victor was a radical departure by the Vauxhall design team from the FC and was launched at the UK Motor Show in 1967 where it was voted the "Car of the Show".  The FD came with a new engine available with 1600cc or 2000cc capacities, optional four-speed floor change gearbox, high specification interior and transatlantic "coke bottle" styling borrowed from Chevrolet that wowed press and public alike.   

 

Sales were strong but corrosion and poor maintenance back in the day means that few FD's have survived and the workhorse estate option is the rarest of them all.

 

At Milestones we are always looking for outstanding cars with good providence and sadly still get very excited when we market an exceptional car like this FD.  The Estate is well known in the owners club with just 6 previous owners including two active club members -one like it so much he has owned her twice - and we have sold the car twice previously to our decerning customers. 

 

Paul Alsop, an Engineer at the Motor Museum Coventry bought the car in 2005 from the original keeper, a local car close to his home. It had been dry stored for around twelve years and Paul completed an engine overhaul and a light body work restoration including the front inner and outer wings which were professionally replaced with new old stock original Vauxhall panels.

 

Paul completed the recommissioning/respray (cellulose) in 2006 and the car featured on the club stand at the NEC Classic Motor show that year alongside a low mileage 1968 Saloon.  Paul sold her to a fellow enthusiast based in Ireland shortly afterwards but, as often happens with exceptional cars, he bought her back in 2011.

 

Paul sold the car again to Jason Callear (May 2016) a leading and ex-committee member of the renowned FD Register. Jason owned the FD jointly with his dad. They bought the FD together because, his Grandad and Dad had an identical car back in the day and she has been lovingly cherished amongst other similar classic Vauxhalls from the era in there private collection.  We sold the car last year to a regular customer who has now part exchanged the Victor for another Milestones car.

 

Today the FD is almost certainly the best you will find and an absolute delight to drive.

Triumph TR5 (250) – Full Restoration/Superb Example

 

Following the hugely successful and visually stunning TR4 the fuel injected TR5 introduced in August 1967 retained the flowing Michelotti lines of the ‘4’ while upgrading performance with the more powerful 2.5 litre straight six engine. 

 

The car was an instant success around the world - there was nothing not to like - although production ceased after just 13 months when the mass produced TR6 was introduced.  The American market was supplied with the TR250 which was identical to the UK TR5 except it sported Stromberg carburettors instead of the Lucas fuel injection system.

 

Our car rolled off the Coventry production line on 25th July 1968 and was dispatched from Samuel Williams Wharf (Dagenham) aboard the Norwegian vessel “Vinni” to Genser & Foreman Inc. Ney York.  The Heritage Certificate confirms that the car retains her original colour – Valecia Blue – with black interior.

 

The ‘5’ was repatriated to the UK in 1998 and has been the subject of a full body-off/photographic restoration, conversion to RHD, overdrive gearbox, TR5 (unleaded) cylinder-head, fast-road camshaft and extractor exhaust system.

Mechanically the TR has wanted for nothing in recent years with servicing annually with any components being replaced as required. 

 

Interior is outstanding with replacement carpets, seats/foams, wooden dash and instrumentation all looking good/working well – I love the MIG 21 clock.

Mercedes 190E – Low Mileage/Manual Gearbox

 

With £600 million spent on research and development the Mercedes 190E was an instant success story and was the car of choice in the compact executive saloon market in the late 1980’s.

 

At Milestone Classics we are constantly being asked to source quality later model emerging classics that can be used regularly as a “standout” everyday driver or simply kept for high day & holiday motoring while values increase. 

 

There are lots of Mercedes out there to choose from but very few outstanding examples, most have gone through multiple owners and covered intergalactic mileages where maintenance, care & attention has been in short supply.

 

Our lovely example of the incredibly popular 190 (1.8) is offered in Artic White with grey interior and has covered 75k miles from new, just run-in for a 190E. 

 

Originally registered on 24th September 1991 the car still retains her original book pack and was owned for many years by the first owner in North London.  Around 10 years ago a car enthusiast was looking for an ideal present for his son’s 21st birthday and the 190E fitted perfectly.  She has covered just 3,000 miles since and spent most of her time under a dust sheet in his dad’s garage.

 

On the road the Mercedes does not disappoint.  She drives like a two-year-old car and propels you along with the minimum of fuss/maximum of comfort and we like the rare five-speed manual gearbox.  The interior is like stepping back in time and all controls work exactly as you would expect.

Ford Escort 1600 Ghia Mk2 – 16,000 miles -The Best

The squarer-styled Mark 2 Escort appeared in January 1975.  The L/GL/Ghia models were the mainstream of production and proved an instant success.  Today the classic styling, entertaining handling and Ford ‘Blue Oval’ appeal have led to a sharp rise in interest & values with good examples being snapped up by a new generation of classic car enthusiasts.

 

Milestones marketed this stunning Escort Mk2 around two years ago and she is only being sold to make room for another Milestones purchase.

 

Mr Kevin Kelly, a garage proprietor purchased his Cosmos Blue Escort on 8th June 1979 and she was registered on 1st August 1979 in order to be allocated the new ‘V’ registration. 

 

Mr Kelly used the car sparingly for two years at which point he purchased a new Golf GTi and his much-loved Escort was comprehensively waxoyled. placed on blocks and put under a soft car cover at the back of his garage for most of the next 30 years.

 

The car was recommissioned and sold in 2010.  Milestones purchased the car from the third owner in 2020 and we were delighted when she was offered to us again by the fourth owner – we always buy our cars back as they are so nice.

 

This phrase “Drives like a new car” has never been more apt.  She pulls very well with smooth gear change, willing engine, the brakes bite keenly and every switch and instrument works exactly as it should.

 

Under the bonnet is excellent.  In particular the slam panel that features all of the original identification plates - even the radiator bears a warn ‘Ford Basildon’ sticker – boot is clean with zero corrosion.

 

The interior is to the same standard as the rest of the car – outstanding!

 

The history file includes the original Bill of Sale from the supplying dealership (H & J Quick) plus the dealer pack, old MOT’s to warrant the mileage plus a Chasing Cars article from Classic Car Weekly in 2020.

Clubman Van: Single Rear Door/Upgraded Mechs/Superb
 

The “Mini” is a British icon from the 1960’s with Alec Issigonis space cheating design and legendary road holding the car really did bend the rules and straighten the bends.

 

Milestone Classics are delighted to market an absolute one-off Mini Clubman Van that has been built to the highest standards.  We have spent a good deal of time researching the story of this Mini and, like all good stories, this one started “A long time ago in a galaxy far far away”.  Well, Weston-super-Mare in the 1980’s!

 

The car arrived at Milestone Classics with a folder containing the V5, some correspondence and pictures of a complete restoration + photograph of an advertisement in Classic Car Weekly some years ago.  The Clubman (then an estate) had just been liberated from long term storage in a garage workshop.

 

Part 1 – The Early Years

During the 1980’s a highly skilled engineer (John) worked at Wadham Street Garage in Weston-super-Mare.  He was looking for a project to make into a ‘hot’ everyday car and landed on a Mini Clubman Estate that needed some work.  The twin rear doors were removed, and a single door fabricated and the roof given a new rear ‘lip’ that works really well.

 

The engine was tuned, given a fast road cam/twin carbs and some other tweaks including disc brakes.  The Clubman quickly earned a reputation for being very very quick.

 

After a period of time something “broke” and the Clubman was put under a cover and forgotten about.

 

Part 2 – The Resurrection

Fast forward around 25 years and the Clubman was liberated from storage and eventually bought by John’s friend and former work colleague Phil, a skilled engineer looking for a project.

 

The Clubman was sandblasted and mounted on a rotisserie when the full extent of the restoration became apparent.  All corrosion was cut out, new floors, sills, wings etc fitted and also new pick-up side panels and van panels to allow the conversion to a one-off Clubman van. 

 

The van received a high-quality metallic grey respray, new shiny bits and sports wheels/Yokohama tyres.

 

The interior also received significant attention with re-worked dashboard, new seats, the rear was panelled with timber/carpet and a Lotus sports steering wheel fitted.

 

Part 3 – The Final Result

Today the Clubman is a real testament to the skill and knowledge of Phil the restorer and his painter.  Jamie simply describes the van as driving like a “skewered rat” – his words not mine.  I guarantee it will bring a smile to your face.

 

Ready to use and enjoy the Clubman is the perfect (tax deductible) advertising vehicle or simply a classic to use and enjoy – I have a 1966 Mini Van that I love.

MGB GT: Overdrive/Chrome Wires/Webasto Roof

 

The MGB GT, designed by Pininfarina, was introduced in October 1965, and can claim to be one of the earliest sports hatchbacks to go into volume production.  The rear deck offers excellent luggage space with a 2+2 option and improved aerodynamics gives the GT a top speed in excess of 100mph. 

 

We are always on the lookout for nice MGB GT’s and were therefore delighted when the owner of this lovely, locally owned example asked us to part-exchange his cherished GT for another Milestones classic.

 

The BGT presents extremely well and ticks just about all the boxes.  The red paint work is lovely and the period vinyl roof/folding Webasto with chrome wires presents well and makes for a very desirable combination.

 

Mechanically the car drives very as you would expect and has recently benefited from a starter-motor, ignition overhaul, brake overhaul and has always been regularly serviced.

 

The interior does not disappoint.  Over recent years the super fastidious owner has fitted new black leather seat covers with red piping, carpets, roof-lining and Motolita steering wheel – it is a lovely place to be.

 

The GT appears to have spent most of her life in Sussex and Hampshire – she was supplied new to Wadham Stringer Limited, Southampton on 5th April 1972.  There is a large history file going back to 1990 containing Heritage Certificate, old MOT’s, lots of invoices, photographs of the car etc.

 

Ready for a road trip on the North Coast 500 with soft bags and partner, displayed at the local classic car show or simply a drive down to the local pub, this stunning classic is ready to use and enjoyed by her next custodian.

MG TD: Rare UK Car - Restored & Outstanding

 

The MG T-Type was a series of traditional ash framed body/separate chassis sports cars produced by Abingdon from 1936 to 1955 that have come to represent the quintessential pre-war British sports.

 

The MG TD announced in January 1950 featured the TC's drivetrain, a modified rear axle, MG Y-Type chassis and a familiar T-type style body (although wider for improved space), wraparound front mudguards and independent front suspension.   The car built on the success of the TC and nearly 30,000 examples were manufactured although only 1,626 stayed in the UK.

 

Milestone Classics are delighted to offer for sale one of the nicest and best driving TD’s you could wish to find finished in my personal favourite combination of cream with red interior.  The car is an original (and therefore very rare) UK RHD example and retains its original registration number and logbook.

 

Summary:

·       Always used and maintained since the restoration

·       Mileage reset to 0 in 1987 and now 33k miles.

 

As the pictures indicate the TD still presents very well – the test of any restoration – and the car simply drives as good as she looks.  The ash frame is good and all panels and chrome work are outstanding with just the minor blemish commensurate with light use over the last 35 years.

 

Mechanically the car starts willingly and drives very well with no untoward noises/smoke and very period correct exhaust note– it is like stepping back in time.

 

The green interior/dashboard have a lovely patina, all instruments and switchgear work as they should, the hood is good and the side screens are with the car.   

 

There is a box full of history with the car including the buff logbook, various publications, invoices and MOT’s back to the mid-1970’s + pictures of the car from before and during the body off restoration.  

 

The restoration work has mellowed very nicely over the last 35 years and today the car presents exactly as we like our own classics – sharp but not over restored.

 

Windscreen down this car is perfect for the Goodwood Revival or weekends away – all you need is a blanket, picnic basket and a bottle of bubbles to make for a perfect day.
