Vauxhall FB Saloon – Concours Condition


The FB launched in 1961 reflected the transatlantic styling popular across Europe at the time and over 320,000 examples were manufactured before production ceased in 1864.  The car received a revised engine with optional four speed floor change and was available as a saloon or estate.  The FB was popular with the public but rust protection was poor and this has resulted in good examples being an incredibly rare sight,


Milestone Classics are delighted to offer for sale one of the best restorations we have ever seen and a car that I would like to keep for myself – it is utterly stunning…..


Manufactured in 1962 our Primrose/Honey Gold FB Victor was purchased new by a lady living in Barry and for 10 years the car was used for local shopping trips covering a total of 13,000 miles. When she passed away in the early 1970’s her son kept the car but never used her.  By 1996 she was in a poor condition and was sold on with the intention of keeping the number plate and the car being used as a banger racer!  Fortunately, she was rescued and put back on the road and used as a daily driver for several years.


In 2008 the car was purchased by the fourth owner and a complete photographic restoration was initiated with able assistance from a variety of friends – the result is one of the best FB’s in the world.


The car was stripped to a bare shell and all corrosion removed.  The fabrication of the replacement body components/panels is of the highest standard and very impressive.  Professionally resprayed in the stunning combination of primrose yellow & honey gold and with all chrome replaced the Victor looks superb.


All mechanical components were inspected during the rebuild and refurbished or replaced as required.  On the road the FB is a pleasure to drive with light steering and precise floor gear change.


All seats & door cards have been re-trimmed in the original colour scheme and carpets, roof lining, dash etc. replaced.   The dashboard looks superb and everything works as it should - including the original Vauxhall valve radio.


The is a large history file containing invoices from the restoration, old V5’s, original drivers handbook & service book, memory stick (+ CDROMs) containing 100’s of pictures and the story is told through an online blog that runs to 30 pages

MG Midget MkIII – Heritage Reshell & Stunning


The MG Midget Mk III was introduced in 1966.  Improved performance (the A-series engine capacity was increased to 1275cc) and refined interior (including a folding hood mechanism) made the model the perfect entry level sports car for a new generation of appreciative young drivers who wanted affordable performance


Milestone Classics are delighted to market one of the nicest Midgets that you could wish to find.  The MG was built as a project by a previous owner who wanted to create his dream Mk III bringing together all the “best bits” from the production run.


A donor car was sourced, and a Heritage body-shell procured (current cost in excess of £10,500 in primer!).  The car was then built to recreate an earlier Mk III car with chrome side trim, chrome grill, chrome bumper/over-riders and chrome wire wheels.


Panel fit is exceptional and there are absolutely no corrosion issues – see link below to fully appreciate the level of craftsmanship that goes into a new shell.


The exterior was professionally painted in tartan red, interior finished is new black seat covers, with new hood, new carpets and Moto-Lita steering wheel. 


Mechanically all components were inspected/overhauled/replaced as required.  Today the car is a real pleasure to drive with brisk acceleration, characteristic exhaust note and handling that is like steeping back in time – she simply drives like a two year old car.


There is a small history file with the car containing MOT’s/invoices since the rebuild including re-commissioning in 2017 at a cost in excess of £2,300

MGC GT – Restored/Low Mileage/Low Owners


The MGC, planned as a replacement for the Austin Healey 3000, was based on the MGB and intended as a long distance tourer with a smooth straight six engine developing 150bhp, a top speed in excess of 120mph and, most importantly, an utterly addictive soundtrack. 


The initial launch was a public relations disaster with wrong tyre pressures and poorly prepared cars, but history has been kind to the ‘C’ and today good examples – particularly of the CGT - are rightly recognised as a classic grand tourer.


At Milestone Classics we reject nearly all MGC’s we see because the few available simply do not meet our exacting standards – this car is the exception.  With a warranted 74,000 miles from new the car has never been owned outside of Somerset or Dorset. 


The car was originally a demonstrator with Westway Service Station and then purchased by Fred Cox – a fighter pilot in WW2 and footballer with Spurs & Arsenal before managing Bournemouth.  With just two additional owners in the last 44 years the CGT has always been meticulously maintained and used sparingly  


The last owner despatched the car to Falls Classics in 2001 and she went through an extensive restoration at a cost in excess of £10,000.

·        Repaired or Replaced – Sills, front wings, rear lower wings, doors & tailgate and valances.

Since the restoration, the GT has covered just 2,000 miles and, after 20 years, still presents extremely well – the true test of any restoration.    The large history file contains the original buff logbook, MOT’s back to 1977, driver’s handbook, invoices etc.  After 20 years the ‘C’ is only being sold through lack of use in order that she can be enjoyed by a new custodian.    


For years the MGC has been an underrated car but it is now acknowledged as a genuine classic tourer that has grown into modern road conditions.  With only 4,457 GT’s being manufactured this is a rare opportunity to purchase an outstanding car that will give years of pleasure to the lucky new owners.

VW Beetle 1967 - Restored 2013 / Show Car



Considered one of the single most influential cars of the 20th century, more than 21 million Volkswagen beetles were sold between 1938 & 2003. Its Autobahn-cruising reliability and "People's Car" ease of service established it as the quintessential economy car by 1950, while the quirky styling and intelligent, self-deprecating advertisements solidified its legacy as a cultural reference point.

Volvo Estate 740GL – One Owner & 27,000 miles

The Volvo 740 was introduced in 1984 with the estate version hitting the market in 1985.  The car immediately enjoyed immense success around the world due to its reliability, renowned safety levels and its unparalleled interior space/load capacity.


Milestone Classics are delighted of offer to market the best, most original 740GL Estate that we have ever seen. The car was bought new by Jack Morris during May 1989 – he purchased the car from his local Volvo Agent, Dean Smith, St Anne’s-on-sea, Fylde, and went on to own the car for the next 31 years.

Today the Volvo has covered just 27,000 miles – so not even run-in yet.   The paint work has a deep lustre and is stunning, the engine bay looks like new and the interior is unmarked with a smell takes you straight back to 1989.  I really like that the car retains the original supplier’s registration plates, two sets of keys and the factory tow bar that looks like it has never been used

On the road the car does not disappoint.  She has the rarer five speed manual gear box with power steering.  As you would expect the 740 is a delight to drive and copes easily with modern driving conditions.

The history file has invoices back to 1989, the original book pack including service book (13 entries) & handbook and the V5 confirms no previous owners

Triumph TR6 - Matching Numbers/Power Steering


The TR6 was introduced in January 1969 using similar chassis and running gear to the TR5/TR250 but with a restyled body by Karmann.  The “Kamm Tail” square body lines and wider wheels made the new car look aggressive and very purposeful while driving could be an “on the edge” experience.  Today the TR6 arguably represents the final incarnation of the classic British sportscar and provides one of the most engaging driving experiences you could wish for.

The car was the subject of a body off rebuild in 1997 and has covered just 15,000 miles since.  She was purchased around five years by a local aircraft engineer who has spent thousands of pounds making this one of the best driving TR6’s you will find on the market today.

Velocette MAC 350cc (1951) Tele-Rigid/Concours


MAC production restarted after WW2.  In 1948 the MAC's girder forks were replaced with innovative air sprung Dowty Oleomatic forks and in 1951 these were upgraded to the Veloce 'tele forks' which were developed for the Velocette LE (these had coil springs with damping).  In addition the engine was upgraded to an alloy barrel and head with wider fins to improve cooling. For 1953 the MAC was updated again, with fully adjustable rear suspension, swinging arm and a tube frame. 


At Milestone Classics we occasionally find a classic motorcycle that meets our demanding standards - this Velocette MAC ticked all the boxes and we simply could not resist the bike when offered to us.


This is an outstanding example of an early post-war (1951) tele-rigid Velocette MAC and is the final incarnation of the generation of rigid-rear bikes.  The machine has been restored to pristine/show condition – she is simply immaculate.  The stove enamel on the frame and tinware is of an extremely high quality and has a deep gloss.


All bright ware, including wheels rims/spokes, exhaust/silencer, fasteners etc. is as new.  Tyres (Avon ribbed front & SM MKII rear) and the saddle/pillion seats are new.   She starts easily with no smoke/rattles, rides well with good gearbox/clutch and the new speedo is working.  The bike will require a period of “running-in” following the recent rebuild.


The history folder comes with a selection of historic articles/advertisements and old V5’s.  The bike has had 4 owners over the last 37 years and retains her transferable registration number.


The rigid rear “Bobber” bikes offer an early motorcycle experience that has gained huge popularity in recent years.  This beautifully restored bike could be shown at shows to win prizes or used as a stunning lightweight post-war classic motorcycle that will provide lots of enjoyment to the lucky new custodian.

Austin A35 - Six year rebuild/superb specification

Introduced in 1956 the A35 replaced the A30 giving improved acceleration & top speed to meet the improving road conditions and growing expectations of drivers in the mid 1950’s


Our example is an early car manufactured on 1st February 1957 in the favoured combination of Tweed Grey with contrasting red interior.  After an extensive period in storage our A35 was purchased in 2007 by an automotive engineer as a re-commissioning project that quickly escalated into a full strip down and six photographic rebuild to near concourse standard.


All mechanical components were inspected, repaired/replaced as required, a new interior with seats, roof lining and carpets fitted finished off with a first-class professional respray.


In 2018 Milestone Classics purchased the car the new owner wanted to recreate an A35 that would be capable of coping with modern traffic conditions using upgrades available to owners during the 1960’s while looking utterly standard.


Paul & Jamie worked closely with Robin sourcing/developing the car over a period of six weeks and the final result is remarkable.

Minor 1000 Van -Total Restoration to Pick-Up Spec

The Morris 1000 saloon designed by Alec Issigonis was introduced at the Earls Court Motor Show in 1948 and the 5cwt commercial van and pick-ups followed in 1953.  Used and abused by large and small businesses alike survivors are exceedingly rare with examples in excellent condition highly prized 


Milestone Classics are delighted to offer a stunning pick-up that has an interesting story.  Our example was registered in August 1970 and originally the chassis carried a van body.  The current owner purchased her in 2013 from a local lawn mower service agent who had owned and well used the van for many years.


Although complete, on closer inspection the van required more work than first anticipated and, after much thought, a total ground up rebuild was initiated with the single objective to create a pick-up to meet the owners exacting standards


Work included:

·        Cab/rear tub sourced/repaired as required

·        Resprayed in original colour (Everglade Green)

·        New chassis

·        Rebuilt engine with unleaded head

·        Carburettor overhauled & electric fuel pump conversion

·        Radiator & water pump replaced

The final is result is one of the best pick-ups that you could wish to find - she is a real testament to the commitment of the owner and skills of all the craftsman who contributed to the restoration.

A40 Somerset: Body Off Restoration/Low Ownership


The A40 Somerset must be one of the most stylish Austin designs of the post war period with flowing lines, bulbous curves, column gear change and front bench seat reflecting the popular “transatlantic” styling of the time.  Firmly aimed at the export market the car proved popular at home and abroad and today good examples are highly prized and difficult to find.


Our A40 Somerset was built at Longbridge on 30th January 1953.  She was a rare ‘home market’ car and was despatched to Northern Ireland where she was purchased by David McKee of Newtownards, County Down and the car remained in his family for the next 65 years. 


Around 1980 David’s son removed the engine and the unit was professionally rebuilt including a rebored block and re-ground crank.  The car remained unfinished until 2014 when David’s grandson, with support from his father, commenced a full body-off restoration – the result is testament to their commitment to the restoration and the depth of their pockets


All panels were removed, and the body separated from the chassis and placed on a specially fabricated frame to maintain alignment and make it easier to work on the car.  The chassis was stripped, sandblasted, repaired where necessary and etched primed.  All body panels were retained, and the car repainted in the original colour of Mendip Grey with all chrome replaced


The interior was retrimmed in Nappa Leather with new carpets, door cards and headlining – the result is arguably better than when the car left the factory in 1953.


All mechanical components were inspected and overhauled/ or replaced as required and new tyres fitted.  The history file contains original buff logbook from 1953, petrol coupons and a copy of the blog detailing the restoration.  On the road the car drives extremely well and is simply one of the best A40’s you could hope to find

Mini Clubman 1275GT - 1 Registered Owner/Matching Nos

The “Mini” is a British icon from the 1960’s with Alec Issigonis space cheating design and legendary road holding the car really did bend the rules and straighten the bends.


Milestone Classics are delighted to market one of the most original Clubman 1275GT’s that you could wish to own.  Registered in Brighton on 2nd August 1971 the Clubman was used for 10 years around South London before entering long-term storage with the first owner.  The GT was briefly recommissioned in the mid-1980’s but then returned to his garage until 2014 when sold to an enthusiastic Mini collector.


The car was the subject of a six-year recommissioning process that was only completed this November.   The engineer completing the work wanted to retain as much originality as possible and the result is a real testament to his knowledge and skills.


Work included:

·        All bracketry stripped/cleaned & painted/cadmium plated to factory spec

·        Engine checked and unleaded head fitted

·        All mechanical components checked/replaced as necessary

·        Hydrolastic suspension retained – this is one of the last models specified

·        GT reclining seats (an option when new), GT leather bound steering wheel, 10” Rostyle wheels (rare) all retained

On the road the car drives as good as she looks.  The close-ratio gearbox, disc brakes and superb roadholding make this a car that simply brings a smile to your face.

Volvo P1800ES – ManualOverdrive/3 Owners


Already busy making the elegant yet utterly practical, safe and beautifully engineered Amazon, Volvo wanted to spice up their image and employed Pelle Petterson to design a new car based on the Amazon platform while working at the Italian design house Frua.  His long, low & streamlined masterpiece was an immediate success and today is the epitome of a classic car that will deliver speed, grace, and practicality.


In 1972 the first model, the P1800ES was marked.  The car retained the bulletproof Amazon mechanicals but now had an all glass tailgate and folding rear seats.  Only 8,077 were sold worldwide and today represent one of the most desirable classics on the road.


First registered in June 1972 our stunning ES was sold by Hanson’s Ltd of Harrogate to the first owner, Mr F Newbold who cherished the car for the next 46 years.  Today the car is a real credit to him with super straight body/paintwork and lovely chrome.


Entering the car is like stepping back in time – Volvo spent considerable time on designing a very safe and welcoming environment.  The fully adjustable seats are super comfortable, the dashboard well designed – it could be a light aircraft – and carpets, headlining door cards etc are all exceptionally good.


The Volvo starts instantly and on the road the car is a real pleasure to drive with the B20 fuel injected engine and super smooth overdrive gearbox delivering performance easily capable of coping with modern road conditions.


The history folder confirms just three keepers, Milestones sold this car to the third owner - a repeat customer - last year who has only sold the Volvo to make space for another classic he bought from us.  The history file also includes invoices, old MOT’s, original driver’s handbook and even the original Hanson’s tax disc holder.


The ES an outstanding GT – they will do anything, go anywhere in comfort and at speed – and this example will provide the new owners with lots of pleasure and many happy memories.


Rover P4 (60) – 20 Year Restoration/Better Than New

P4 was the Rover factory designation for a group of midsize luxury saloons produced between 1949 and 1964.  The Rover 60 was introduced in 1953 featuring the company's ubiquitous four cylinder/2 Litre engine.  The ‘Auntie’ became the obvious choice for the upwardly mobile middle class post war British family and today rightly attracts a loyal following.    


Milestone Classics are delighted to market what we believe to be one of the best P4’s in the country and certainly the best currently on the market.  The body-off restoration was conducted over a 20-year period by an engineer who simply wanted to restore a car to “better than new” condition – in our opinion he comfortably achieved this objective,


The body was removed from the chassis, all corrosion removed, the car professionally repainted in the original special-order two-tone grey and all chrome replated as required 


The engine (unleaded head), gearbox (fluid flywheel) and rear axle were rebuilt, all mechanical components reconditioned or replaced as required and the car rewired


The interior looks and smells like a gentleman’s club from 1955, when the car was new.  Carpets & headlining have been replaced, seats reupholstered in leather, wood repolished, and original radio sent away to be reconditioned. 

The under-dash tool kit is, as you would expect, all present and correct.


There are four large history files going back to original service records in 1956, photographs of the restoration and pictures of the car on display at the NEC Classic Car show in 2016.


This Rover really must be seen and driven to be fully appreciated.  The P4 starts first time on the button, drives without fault and is a real testament to the skill, knowledge and commitment of the man who restored her.  We estimate that to replicate this restoration would easily cost in excess of £40,000.

Triumph 2000 Mk2 (Auto) – 2 Owners/Utterly Original

The Michelotti styled 2000 Mk2 was introduced in October 1969 and was the last big Triumph saloon produced by the Coventry factory.  The car had improved performance/better handling than its Mk1 predecessor, was well received by the public and quickly became the pursuit car of choice for many UK police forces.


In February 1974 Mr Redhead, a time served REME engineer traded his Hillman Super Minx Estate for a two-year-old Triumph 2000 saloon (for the princely sum of £1,395) and went on to own the car for the next 45 years.  He carried all servicing and remedial work during his ownership and regularly rust-proofed the car touching in any stone-chips etc. as required


The car spent nine years in storage when work took the family to Fiji and while in the UK the Triumph has always been garaged even when not in use.  More recently the car has only left the warmth of his garage for trips to the Golf Club and the odd Triumph rally.


Mechanically the car drives perfectly with willing engine and smooth automatic gearbox that kicks down quickly and holds gears when more spirited driving is required.  Structurally the Triumph is remarkable with no corrosion and the Saffron paint is outstanding with a deep lustre that sets the car off perfectly….it is like stepping back in time.


On the road the 2000 is a delight to drive - the 2000cc engine mated to the automatic gearbox with power steering is highly desirable combination.  The history folder has the bill of sale from 1974, old MOT’s and a variety of invoices, literature etc. 


Unrestored cars with this provenance rarely come to market. The Triumph is well able to cope with modern road speeds and is the perfect choice for the classic enthusiast looking for a car to enjoy for holiday road trips to France or simply to use and enjoy at local shows with friends and family






Jaguar XJ Sovereign SWB – 18,000 miles from new

The Jaguar XJ (X308) is the third and final incarnation of the XJ40 platform that was in production between 1986 and 2004.  The Sovereign represented the highest specification for this Jaguar range with burr walnut in abundance, supple fluted leather seats and a suspension specifically set up for comfortable long-distance touring.  Today these ‘end of the line’ cars are highly desirable but difficult to find with many having fallen from grace with multiple owners and inter-galactic mileage.

The XJ was recommissioned earlier this year including a full service, MOT (passed with flying colours) and a new set of Pirelli P7’s tyres.  The silky smooth 4.0 litre V8 is an absolute delight and the automatic gearbox makes this Sovereign a real Gentleman’s Express.  Purchased after a long search by a lifelong Jaguar enthusiast the car is only being sold because of an unexpected change of circumstances.

Mk1 Cortina GT – Ford’s Fast Four Door

Once it became obvious the Mk1 Lotus Cortina was going to dominate the saloon car scene for some time, clever marketing from the Dagenham suits resulted in the 1500 GT. The Cheshunt built twin cam would prove too costly and a little extreme for your average family daily driver in 1962. Ford fans who desired more performance did not have long to wait before the GT arrived in April 63 in both two and four door versions. 

The 1498cc engine (first seen on the Capri GT) had been ‘breathed on’ by the folks at Cosworth, raising the compression ratio with a more aggressive camshaft and larger valves, alloy inlet manifold with twin choke Webber carb. The exhaust benefitted from a four-branch manifold and the performance package contributed an additional 20bhp from standard. The ‘facelift’ version of the Mk1 GT from 1964 included the Airflow ventilation system plus the location of the axle on twin trailing arms. Some 79k GT’s were built before the Mk1 ceased in 1966 but the survival rate is currently down to a few hundred examples.


Here at Milestone Classics we could not be more delighted to witness the return of the Cortina 1500GT we last saw in 2017. Purchased by a West Sussex resident in 2016 the car arrived on our shores from France after spending many years in storage; the retired engineer from Pagham confirmed ‘very few Mk1 bodyshells are as solid as this example’. He would transfer the car to right hand drive, with all the entailed before releasing the GT to us in 2017 when a new chapter beckoned way up north in Ryton, Tyne & Wear. The current custodian lavished over £4k over three years improving the Ford, including new brake servo, master cylinder, clutch slave with master cylinder refurb, electronic ignition, plus under bonnet and dash improvements. 

Visually this GT is in top form with extra attention lavished under the hood, also new door cards all round to enhance the impressive interior whilst paint finish is hard to fault. We know the chassis plate offers the GT designation of ‘78’ which confirms it is a genuine four door example sat on 5.5-inch steel rims. Behind the wheel it lives up to all expectations, the motor is punchy whilst the handling feels precise, minus excessive body roll and with the advantage of improved brakes, brisk fun for fans of the blue oval. Currently the MK1 GT’s desirability is hotter than ever ensuring when they are offered for sale they don’t remain idle for long.


Renault Caravelle: Restored – RHD – Very Rare

At a Florida convention of North American distributors Renault's US dealers called for the creation of coupé/cabriolet to rival the VW Ghia.  Renault's chairman, Pierre Dreyfus, agreed and commissioned the ‘Floride’ design project.  


The Floride (later the Caravelle) was unveiled at the 1958 Paris Motor Show. The small rear-engine design by Pietro Frua at Carrozzeria Ghia initially used the Dauphine floor pan/engine but it was the futuristic French bodywork that attracted all the interest. 


We were delighted when a decerning local classic car collector approached Milestone Classics and asked us to assist him with the sale of this fabulous Caravelle.  She is a very rare original RHD UK car from the final year of production (1968) running the superior R8 engine/drive train.


The car has an interesting story.  Around 2010 Renault, in partnership with their logistics company, wanted a new generation of staff to appreciate the Renault heritage while improving technical skills.  Across Europe each centre chose a classic Renault to restore, the UK team chose the Caravelle.   AKA Bridget (after

Bridget Bardot who owned and advertised a Caravelle in the 1960’s)


Summary of Work

·       A UK RHD car was sourced – no easy task!

·       Over many months a young team completely stripped the car

·       All corrosion was removed with new panels fabricated and fitted where required.

·       All mechanical components removed, inspected, overhauled as necessary including replacement of the push button automatic gearbox with a manual unit

·       Rewired

·       Interior – door cards fabricated; seats recovered & carpet replaced

·       Hood relined, outer hood cover & hydraulic frame mechanism renovated

·       Resprayed in original colour of white

·       All components re-chromed

·       Pictures taken at each stage of the restoration (+50 pictures)


The result of the project is a real testament to the skill and commitment of those that restored the car.  Panel gaps are all exceptionally good and the paint finish is excellent.  The interior and dashboard are lovely and on the road the car drives well – she isn’t the quickest car in the showroom - but she is one of the sharpest!

The characteristics that attracted buyers in the Sixties make the Caravelle an alluring choice now.  The unique styling has aged really well and the car always draws a lots of attention & comments – the unusually lengthy overhangs means the Caravelle strikes a dashing pose even today.

MGB GT – Restored/Overdrive/Low Ownership


The MGB GT, designed by Pininfarina, was introduced in October 1965, and can claim to be one of the earliest sports hatchbacks to go into volume production.  The rear deck offers excellent luggage space with a 2+2 option and improved aerodynamics gives the GT a top speed in excess of 100mph. 


At Milestone Classic we always buy back cars that we have sold before and are delighted to have the opportunity to market this early MGB GT that we first sold three years ago.


The previous husband and wife (2nd) keeper had cherished the BGT since 1978.  The car went through an expensive restoration with Motorspeed Ltd (West Sussex) in 1994/95 - the cost at the time was in excess of £8,000 - and work included new floors, sills, wings, doors etc, with lots of supporting invoices and pictures.


In 2017 the car was purchased from Milestones by the current owners who used her as their wedding car and numerous road trips since.  She has provided lots of fun and happy memories and is (regretfully) only being sold to make space for a newer/larger classic.


The GT is just how we like our stock.  To factory specification, the restoration has stood the test of time extremely well with just the odd paint blemish commensurate with light use over the last 25 years.  Mechanically the car is excellent having been cossetted by the last two owners with a large history file demonstrating regular expenditure totalling thousands of pounds.


Today the word is out.  Good examples of early BGT’s are highly desirable and this much loved, fastidiously maintained car will give years of pleasure to the fortunate new custodian. 


Sunbeam Rapier Series V – The Rare One

The Series V was the first Rapier to receive the 1725 plaque to the front wings; a hint of the increased performance this ultimate version enjoyed prior to the fastback model; the final chapter of the Rapier actually sold less than 4k examples, making the Series V a rather rare sight nowadays. An older restoration that still impresses, finished in Willow Green Metallic with ‘fins’ enhanced by chrome trim and a bold grille that confirms this was the last of Rootes flamboyant saloons prior to the Arrow range. 

Light tan interior with plenty of veneer offers the perfect environment for any enthusiast to travel whilst dash gauges confirm very healthy oil pressure and a current milometer reading of 74475. Any new owner will appreciate the care and attention previous keepers have bestowed on the Rapier, not just visually but also on the move. Eager to please, the engine picks up rapidly whilst the gear changes are smooth and exact, there is nothing tired about this Series V, a taught and exciting package with more than a nod to its rally heritage.

The comprehensive history includes a hand-written account of monies spent by one custodian getting the Rapier up to scratch including his original purchase in 1970, from a Dorset dealer. In 1986 the gearbox was rebuilt plus new sills fitted before displaying the car at the 1987 Sunbeam National Rally.  More recent owners have contributed their invoices and include starter motor and alternator re-furb plus replacement servo and fuel pump whilst the latest upgrades include a new Webber carb and manifold that has certainly ‘pepped up’ performance; obviously, the original items will be supplied with the car. We also have old style V5’s, invoices back to 1985 plus MOT certificates originating from 87 with parts catalogues and Rootes information from bygone decades, all adding up to a detailed and interesting file. 

Here at Milestone Classics we go the extra mile to locate great 60s/70s saloons and coupes and feel we have found a little gem in our Series V Rapier. A solid example with great history that will always turns heads, well maintained and ready to please. Get into the fast lane on this one, we expect to enjoy plenty of interest.


Standard 12 Saloon (Deluxe) – Fully Restored


The Standard Motor Company was founded in1903 by R. W. Maudslay, a civil engineer by profession, who quickly realised the enormous potential of the horseless carriage.  The company gained an enviable reputation for producing well-appointed/well engineered cars and sales remained strong until the outbreak of WW2.


At Milestone Classics we like to keep at least one pre-war car in stock for our discerning customers and simply could not resist the charm and condition of this remarkable Standard 12 Deluxe originally manufactured in 1935. 


The previous owner liberated the car after an extended period in storage.  She went through an expensive/extensive photographic restoration around 20 years ago and is still in remarkable condition today.  All corrosion was removed, suspect timber replaced, and the car was professional respray in a stunning blue/white combination with extensive re-chroming


Recent work (circa £5,000) has included:

·       2010 - Headlining

·       2011 - Complete engine overhaul including pressure test, engine mounts & gasket set

·       2013 - Brake overhaul

·       2014 - Rear spring boosters and steering overhaul


The owner wisely retained the original leather seats & dashboard - sitting into the car is like stepping back in time.  The ‘12’ has a remarkably generous interior that accommodates four people easily - the rear passengers even enjoy the benefit of fold down picnic tables!


On the road the car drives well with excellent mechanics (the crash gearbox is utterly rewarding once you understand how to co-ordinate wheel speed with engine revolutions) and she copes easily with modern road conditions.  


The history file contains MOT’s from 2000, original Instruction Book and a photograph album with pictures of the restoration.
