1954 Austin A30 AS4 Saloon - Early Model/Fully Restored

Introduced in 1951, the Austin A30 marked a significant step forward for the Austin Motor Company, becoming the marque's first post-war small family car to feature modern monocoque construction. Built at the famous Longbridge Works in Birmingham, the A30 quickly established itself as an economical and dependable motor car, helping to mobilise a new generation of British motorists during the 1950s.

Offered here is a charming and increasingly desirable 1954 Austin A30 AS4 four-door saloon, produced at the Longbridge factory during the model's early evolution. The AS4 represented an improved development of the original 750cc A30, retaining many distinctive design features that enthusiasts particularly admire today.

Finished in grey, this delightful example displays a number of characteristics unique to the earlier A30 models. Unlike the later A35, it benefits from the smaller rear window, long gear lever and the beautifully styled full chrome horseshoe front grille that has become synonymous with the model. It also retains the elegant side-pillar semaphore traffic indicators, a wonderful period feature that would soon disappear from subsequent production cars.

Mechanically, the car has benefited from a comprehensive recent engine rebuild. Works carried out include the fitment of a new fuel pump, ignition coil and points, water pump, piston and rings, rocker shaft, crankshaft bearings, clutch and pressure plate, together with a new battery. The interior has also received attention with new headlining and carpets fitted, creating a welcoming cabin that complements the car's charming character.

With nine previous keepers recorded, this Austin presents as an honest and usable example of one of Britain's most recognisable post-war family cars. It is ready for its next custodian to enjoy on local shows, classic car gatherings and leisurely countryside drives.

A rare opportunity to acquire an early AS4 model with many of the features that distinguish the A30 from its successors.
