1929 MG M Type – VSCC Eligible/One Owner

Few motor cars capture the spirit of vintage British motoring quite like the MG M Type. Introduced in 1929 as the marque’s first true sports car for the enthusiast driver, the diminutive “Midget” quickly earned a reputation for lively performance, nimble handling and unmistakable charm. Lightweight, purposeful and beautifully proportioned, the M Type became the foundation upon which MG built its sporting legacy, both on the road and in competition. Today, surviving examples represent an increasingly rare opportunity to own a significant piece of pre-war motoring history.

Registered in 1929 and eligible for VSCC events, this delightful MG M Type is offered with a wonderfully evocative history file that perfectly complements the character of the car itself. Accompanying the vehicle is the original buff log book containing owner details, together with a remarkable black and white photographic record documenting the car from its discovery in a state of complete disrepair through to its painstaking restoration. The photographs provide a fascinating insight into the extraordinary dedication and craftsmanship invested into returning the car to its former glory.

Also included are the original instruction manual for MG short chassis sports cars and the original service manual for Salisbury Hypoid Axles, both wonderful period pieces in their own right and increasingly difficult to find. Further correspondence within the history file includes a letter from West Sussex County Council confirming that any traceable history prior to 1967 had unfortunately been destroyed, although records did identify one former owner as Mr P. Rutledge of Horsham, date of ownership is unknown.

The accompanying MOT history reflects periods where the car remained off the road while restoration works were carried out, a labour of love undertaken at home over many years with immense care and devotion. Following completion, the MG became a cherished member of the family and remained treasured ownership until Mr G sadly passed away.

Beautifully representative of the golden age of British motoring, this charming M Type offers an irresistible combination of history, originality and character. Whether enjoyed on vintage rallies, VSCC events or simply admired as one of the most important small sports cars of its era, it stands as a wonderful testament to the enthusiasm and passion that has preserved it for future generations.
