1971 Lotus Elan S4 - Two Owner - Iconic Creation
First introduced in the early 1960s, the Lotus Elan quickly became recognised as one of Colin Chapman’s purest expressions of lightweight engineering and driver-focused design. By the time the S4 arrived, it had evolved into the definitive road variant, prized for its balance, delicacy and unmistakable character—qualities that have secured the model a lasting place in British sports-car history.
This 1971 Lotus Elan S4, finished in its striking yellow, was first registered on 1 January 1971 and remains an unusually well-documented example. It spent part of its life within the renowned Lars Goran Iskowitz Auto Collection in Sweden before returning to the UK, where it was acquired at Bonhams in 2004 by its current keeper—just the second recorded owner since that purchase.
The car presents with a generous file of MOT history and retains its old tax discs, reflecting a lifetime of attentive stewardship. Its current MOT runs until June 2026. Recent mechanical investment has been extensive, with a new alternator fitted in 2023 alongside numerous other works, most of which are supported by invoices from that same year. In 2024 it received a fresh set of Pirelli tyres, adding further confidence to its on-road readiness.
This S4 is offered with an impressive history portfolio and represents an excellent opportunity to acquire a carefully maintained example of one of Lotus’s most iconic creations.
