Introduced in 1962 as the successor to the MGA, the MGB combined timeless British styling with dependable engineering and spirited open-top performance, quickly becoming one of the most successful sports cars of its era. Milestone Classic are delighted to present a beautifully restored MGB Roadster benefitting from a Heritage shell rebuild, overdrive transmission and modern electric power assisted steering. Carefully rebuilt with a meticulous attention to detail, this car offers the perfect blend of traditional character and refined drivability.
The car was the subject of a comprehensive, no-expense-spared restoration during the late 1990s by Mr D. Whitaker, a highly experienced time-served engineer who undertook the project as part of his retirement before relocating to Cornwall. The restoration began with the purchase of a brand new British Motor Heritage shell supplied by Motorspeed Limited, providing the car with an exceptional structural foundation that remains outstanding today.
Mechanically, the car was fitted with an Ivor Searle unleaded engine and new clutch in 2000, ensuring reliable and effortless touring capability. During the rebuild the interior was comprehensively refurbished with leather seating, a beautifully restored dashboard, quality carpeting and a classic Mota-Lita steering wheel, creating a cockpit that perfectly captures the atmosphere of traditional British sports car motoring. Brakes and suspension were renewed, followed by a replacement rear axle in 2003, SU carburettors in 2004 and a stainless steel exhaust system in 2005. Further improvements included replacement bumpers and exterior handles, a Kenlowe electric cooling fan, chrome wire wheels fitted in 2013 and a high-quality Double Duck hood installed the same year. Most notably, the car was upgraded in 2021 with the highly regarded Easysteer electric power assisted steering system, transforming low-speed manoeuvrability while retaining the authentic driving feel expected of an MGB.
The car drives superbly and feels every inch the properly sorted example that it is. The underside remains finished in body colour, the engine bay is beautifully detailed and the bodywork continues to present to an exceptionally high standard, testament to the quality of the original restoration and the care it has received throughout its life.
Accompanying the car is a substantial history file containing MOT certificates dating back to 1988, photographic documentation of the rebuild, an engineer’s report, numerous invoices detailing expenditure and the original driver’s handbook. The history and attention to detail throughout the file only reinforce the quality and integrity of this outstanding Roadster. The previous owner has typed up a great timeline through its life providing information, dates and mileage.
In recent years, Heritage-shelled and mechanically restored MGBs have become increasingly sought after, particularly examples finished and maintained to this standard.
