1978 MG Midget 1500 - Beautiful restoration/Extensive History

The MG Midget is a small, lightweight two-seat sports car produced by MG between 1961 and 1980. Designed to provide affordable open-top motoring with engaging handling characteristics, the Midget became one of Britain's most popular sports cars. The final MG Midget 1500, introduced in 1974, was powered by a 1493cc four-cylinder engine derived from the Triumph Spitfire, offering improved torque and refinement while retaining the model's unmistakable charm. Today, the MG Midget remains a highly regarded classic, appreciated for its simplicity, character, and enjoyable driving experience.

Offered for sale is this attractive MG Midget 1500 finished in red with a black interior. This 1500 has had six previous owners. Accompanying the vehicle is an extensive history file containing numerous invoices and receipts that demonstrate the care and attention it has received over the years. Included within the documentation is a detailed hand-written record of restoration and maintenance work carried out between 2020 and 2022, amounting to in excess of £4,000.

The car has continued to benefit from ongoing investment in recent years. During the last year alone, it received a new carpet set, sidelights, genuine British Motor Heritage left and right doors, a fuel tank sender unit, high and low horn terminals, and a hazard switch. Supporting invoices are available to verify the parts purchased and work undertaken.

More recently, the car has undergone paintwork as part of the final stages of its restoration, further enhancing its presentation and reflecting the continued commitment of its current owner. While the car presents well, there remains scope for an enthusiast to further improve and refine the paint finish should they wish to achieve a fully uniform cosmetic standard.

This well-documented MG Midget represents an excellent opportunity to acquire a charming British sports car that has benefited from significant expenditure, continuous maintenance, and recent restoration work. With its comprehensive history, long MOT, and extensive supporting paperwork, it offers an appealing prospect for both first-time classic owners and established enthusiasts alike.
