Astra Mk2 GTE: 3-Door/Utterly Original/The Best
The Opel Kadett was launched in 1979. Initially all production was based at Opel’s West German (Bochum) factory - the RHD Kadett was re-badged as an Astra for the UK market – with UK production commencing in 1981.
By 1983 General Motors had decided to enter the Hot-Hatch market and the ‘GTE’ was launched in direct competition against the XR3, Golf GTi, and 205GTi and the Astra Mk2 followed in 1984.
What a choice for the twenty something driver….80’s styling, red-top overhead cam engine and that digital dashboard. It was a Barnstormer of a car.
At Milestones we have been looking for a Mk2 GTE for years – I have fond memories, and it is Jamie’s favourite ‘80’s Hot-Hatch – and when this car was offered to us, we simply had to inspect her.
The previous examples we had looked to buy have been tired or very poorly restored rusty shells that did not meet our standards – this GTE is something very special.
Sourced and supplied new in August 1991 to the original owner as a "new for old" replacement for his stolen Astra GTE by Main Road Vauxhall in Tyne & Wear and fitted with an immobiliser and supplied with a steering wheel lock as stipulated by the insurance company due to the number of GTEs stolen at the time.

A collector had been looking for his dream GTE, with no success until he bid on this example in 2023. The car exceeded his expectations and he is only selling her to make way for the 1600E that he purchased from us. He knows a good car when he sees one.
Today this super rare Hot-Hatch is simply the best on the market – even the digital dashboard works as when it left the factory.
