Rover P4 (105R): Power Steering/Auto Gearbox
The all new, post-war Rover appeared in 1949 and became one of the readily recognised and fondly remembered cars of the era with the six-cylinder models delivering superior performance with gentlemen’s club comfort. The pinnacle, and most desirable of the range was the 105 ‘R’ (Rover-drive auto box) and ‘S’ (Manual) models with high compression cylinder heads and twin SU carburettors delivering more than 100bhp and capable of speeds in excess of 100mph.
Milestones are delighted to market this lovely “Auntie” P4 that was first registered in southwest London during 1958 and was purchased by the previous owner around 8 years ago. The objective at this time was to execute a sympathetic / aesthetically correct recommissioning exercise that would result in a ‘sharp’ 105R that would cope with modern road conditions and be easy to use and enjoy – hence the power steering.
The pictures speak for themself. The Sage Green coachwork presents extremely well with just the slight blemish commensurate with light use and is complemented by very nice chrome work – it is a stunning combination.
The interior has been re-upholstered to a high standard in green leather (not the cheap vinyl option so often used) and the African Walnut woodwork has been repolished as required – the result is an interior that looks right and smells right & invites you to make yourself comfortable.
A set of Quick Fit (the highly respected specialists in classic car seat restraints) seat belts complement the leather while for modern use a satellite navigation connection is fitted. Other work includes a new torque converter, battery, radial tyres, replacement steering wheel, new door rubbers, various suspension components & electronic ignition.
A large history file accompanies the car and includes supporting invoices for the work undertaken, an original letter from Rover on how to operate the automatic transmission, original handbook, tax discs, MOT history etc.
This Rover really must be seen and driven to be fully appreciated. The P4 starts first time on the button, drives without fault (the power steering transforms the car) and is a real testament to the skill, knowledge and commitment of the man who recommissioned her.
We recommend early viewing and a test drive in order to fully appreciate the charms of this lovely classic.
