1980 Mini 1275 GT
The Austin Morris Mini 1275 GT, introduced as part of the British Leyland Mini Clubman range, has long been regarded as one of the most characterful and collectible variants of the classic Mini lineage. Here is an exceptional example, first registered on 9 October 1980, making it one of the final 1275 GTs to leave the factory before production ceased. Finished in Vermillion Red, the car immediately evokes the charm and vibrancy associated with the period, further enhanced by its original deckchair upholstery, a feature increasingly scarce to find preserved in situ.
This particular 1275 GT benefits from a full and highly professional restoration undertaken by a leading Mini specialist, returning the car to factory-standard specification and remarkably high condition throughout. The restoration was not merely cosmetic; in 2022 the car received extensive mechanical restoration which is supported by a well-documented invoice trail. Work included a complete engine rebuild accompanied by a new clutch, alternator, fan belt, oil filter, fuel pump, battery, tyres and spark plugs. Attention to detail continued across the body and trim with the fitting of a new bonnet spring, windscreen rubbers, boot-lid cable, wiper motor, rear lamps, side indicator lenses, pedal rubbers, carpet felt, dashboard switches for the heater, headlights and hazard warning system, as well as a new headlining and interior lamp. The combined expenditure on mechanical and cosmetic renewal amounts to approximately £20,000, with all invoices present and supporting the quality of the work undertaken.
Adding further to its appeal, the Mini retains its period British Leyland Mini Clubman/Mini 1275 GT Motor manual, an increasingly rare companion to surviving examples. The car presents today in outstanding order, both structurally and mechanically, representing an opportunity to acquire a late-registered and meticulously restored 1275 GT in a condition rarely seen. This is a superb example of one of the most desirable derivatives of the classic Mini, ready for continued preservation, exhibition or enjoyment on the road.
