1988 Ford Sierra RS Cosworth Sapphire Blue – 33,000 miles, 3 Former Keepers
First registered on 2 December 1988, this Ford Sierra RS Cosworth in Sapphire Blue presents as a rare and highly original survivor of one of the most celebrated performance saloons of the 1980s. Retaining its factory paintwork, original panels, and interior, it carries an exceptional history supported by full documentation and an unbroken chain of ownership.
The car was initially delivered to Mr Terence Michael Bailey, before passing in March 1991 to its second keeper, Mr Dennis William Martin. A noted politician of the time, Mr Martin used the car only occasionally, a detail reflected in both the mileage and the presence of a contemporary newspaper feature on his ownership which accompanies the history file. Upon his passing, the Sierra was inherited by his son, Mr Keith Martin, a garage proprietor who understood both the significance and the mechanical needs of the Cosworth. Maintained exclusively with genuine Ford components, the car was placed on SORN between 2009 and 2018, with paperwork to support this.
In 2018, the Cosworth was the subject of a sympathetic recommissioning exceeding £5,000, which included a reconditioned turbocharger, new cambelt, brake discs, bushes, and the fitment of a standard exhaust — all parts sourced through Ford. A further service and MOT were carried out in March 2020, and the car remains on the road today in fine mechanical order.
The accompanying history is extensive: full V5 documentation charting each keeper, MOT records, original tax discs, the aforementioned press article, and a personal written account by Keith Martin recalling his father’s purchase and early stewardship. Together these elements provide an unusually detailed provenance, making this a compelling example for collectors and enthusiasts alike.
With just over 33,000 miles recorded, three former keepers, and originality preserved throughout, this Sierra RS Cosworth represents a rare opportunity to acquire one of Ford’s true homologation legends in saloon form, with history as authentic as its unspoiled presentation.
