1963 Rover P5 3 Litre MkII Coupe – A Preserved Icon of British Motoring

The Rover P5 is a series of large saloon and coupe automobiles produced by the Rover Company from 1958 to 1973. Revered for their solid construction, dignified styling, and smooth performance, the P5 models were popular among British government officials — including several prime ministers — and remain admired as quintessential examples of mid-century British engineering.

First registered in November 1963, this Rover P5 3 Litre MkII Coupe represents a beautifully preserved example of British automotive heritage. Introduced in 1962 as Rover’s answer to competitors like Jaguar and Mercedes-Benz, the P5 was admired for its elegant styling and advanced engineering. It featured independent torsion-bar front suspension, a live rear axle, power-assisted steering, and a smooth three-speed automatic gearbox.

Cherished throughout its life, this particular example presents in excellent overall condition. In 2012, a new speedometer was fitted, resetting the odometer at 91,724 miles. A comprehensive restoration followed in 2017, including a full repaint in an eye-catching Stone Grey over Juniper Green. The interior was completely retrimmed by renowned specialist Michele Martignetti of Bedford, finished in Beige leather with Pale Green piping for a refined, period-correct look. A distinctive feature is the highly polished dashboard dial surrounds, lending a subtle touch of individuality and charm.

Accompanying the car is an extensive history file, featuring old tax discs and MOT certificates dating back to 1987. Two large folders meticulously document maintenance and restoration work, with invoices totalling over £25,000 — a testament to the care and investment lavished on this car by previous owners.

With its distinguished styling, robust engineering, and well-documented restoration, this Rover P5 MkII Coupe is not only a joy to behold but also a highly collectible piece of British motoring history.
