1980 AK Cobra - Lovely Period-style Details/Low Mileage
The AC Cobra is one of the most recognisable sports cars ever produced, born from the collaboration between British manufacturer AC Cars and American racing driver Carroll Shelby. Combining the lightweight AC Ace chassis with Ford V8 power, the Cobra became renowned for its dramatic performance and distinctive roadster styling, establishing itself as one of the great Anglo-American sports cars of the 1960s.
At Milestone Classics we are delighted to offer this striking AK Cobra, first registered in 1980 and finished in the classic combination of red with a contrasting black interior. With its unmistakable Cobra shape, low-slung stance and purposeful detailing and mileage of only just over 5500 miles, it is a car that certainly attracts attention wherever it goes.
This example comes with a great history file, including a written list of ownership, a selection of old V5 documents helping to trace its ownership trail, lots of historic MOT records and a good collection of invoices. There are also spare keys, a current MOT and plenty of supporting documentation to give the next custodian a useful record of the car's history.
The Cobra benefited from a full service carried out alongside further attention by Total Headturners. Work included the fitting of new fuel lines and new wiring connectors, together with a new tonneau cover and detailing, ensuring the car was properly prepared for continued enjoyment.
There are plenty of lovely period-style details to appreciate, including the triple windscreen wipers, bullet-style mirrors and an authentic cranked gearstick with its functional T-bar reverse gear selection. The vinyl stripes are also removable, should the next owner prefer the cleaner unadorned Cobra appearance.
Practical touches include a thermostatically controlled electric fan and a fire extinguisher neatly installed in the boot, while the black interior provides a purposeful contrast to the bright red exterior.
This is a Cobra built to be enjoyed, rather than simply admired, offering the opportunity to own one of the most instantly recognisable classic sports car shapes ever created.
